The global pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has become one of the most critical challenges for intensive care all over the world regarding its variety of morbidities and high mortality. However, due to the lack of specific and effective measures, current treatment strategies remain largely supportive. Since nutritional therapy has been shown to play an important role in critical care; therefore, it should also be integrated as part of the COVID-19 care. Based on recent evidences from clinical trials and also on guideline recommendations from ASPEN and ESPEN, we pointed out several important highlights and structured a practical nutrition therapy framework on the nutrition therapy for COVID-19 patients. We hope that these concise protocols will provide the intensivists a quick clinical reference for optimizing nutrition delivery as a necessary adjunct to medical therapy for improving the survival of patients with COVID-19.
